Biography:
Hello I’m Sean Flaherty-Plourde. My first karate class was with a best friend of mine in Woodstock, Ontario. That class was instructed by Sensei Mike Woodworth and I was 7 years old at the time. He shortly after joined with Sensei Randy Dauphin and opened a dojo in Brantford, Ontario, my hometown. I trained there from white belt to achieving black belt at the age of 16.
I am currently a 3rd degree black belt in Legacy Shorin Ryu. I teach beginners and private lessons. What draws me to Legacy Shorin Ryu and keeps me motivated is the deep thinking. As a kid I would often leave class and think of what Sensei said for days later, sometimes years. One quote I heard often was “We won’t only teach you how to punch, but why.”
Outside of karate I am a licensed Red Seal Electrician.
